I have organized thread/yarn-holder jewelry into four categories. Click on the pictures to see individual enlargements of items in each category.
Bracelets: Made of base and precious metals, basketry, and early and modern plastics, sometimes with wooden features.
These come in different forms for holding the thread or yarn.
Waist Hooks: Also known as chatelaines; I have only seen these in metals, mostly silver, and only in the spool-knave form
(looking like small stirrups) with horizontal spindles.
Bodice Brooches: Fairly rare, but in different forms: with spindles to hold thread spools or hooks to hold yarn skeins.
Necklaces: I have only seen modern necklace thread-holders, and with horizontal spindles.
