ACME Roto Service Photos, dated June 6, 1941:       Photo 1: "First thing you do is sit yourself in your favorite chair, Turn off the radio and keep your mind and ear off the wacky world." {Note: World War II was raging in Europe at this time.} "With Confidence and quiet determination, take a crochet hook in one hand, thread in the other."

Photo 2: "Now make a loop on the end of hook, push hook through loop, catch thread with hook and pull through loop, completing one chain stitch. This is just as easy as it sounds."

Photo 6 Photo 5 Photo 4 Photo 4: "This is the stage where a man proves whether he has the stuff of which a crocheter is made. Some times, something snaps here, and we don't mean the thread."

Photo 5: "Now comes a feeling of calm that passeth all understanding. Relaxation has set in. Gentle tendrils of thread caress the brow. Cares of the world are far away, and so is the crocheter."

Photo 6: "All spoofing aside, Ralph C. Mitchell of Independence, Kans., really can ply a mean crochet hook. Here's a sample of his work --a magnificent -- a magnificent something-or-other."
