Textile art cards have been around for some time, however the earliest I have are Lana Sauer's (of Covington, KY) 1938 set of postcards depicting her crocheted "Seasons". And in the 1950s St.Augustine, Florida's Lightner Museum of Hobbies published the below depiction of their museum in filet crochet. I believe the filet crocheted piece was on display in the foyer of their museum. Artist unknown.
In more recent years, needlework artists, like all artists, have announced their art shows with cards. Here are some examples from Norma Minkowitz (far right), and (left to right) Jo Hamilton, Prudence Mapstone, Bonnie Meltzer, Aze Ong, and Carol Ventura. These artists (and more) are featured in Gwen Blakley-Kinsler's book The Fine art of Crochet with fascinating details about the inspirations behind each artists' work.
