Apteryx_haastii, Australia's Kiwi Bird, was a mid-1800s sensation at the London Zoological Gardens.
It was also the subject of controversy,
with Sir Richard Owen, an eminent biologist/paleontologist, claiming it was an evolutionary link between birds and mammals,
and with Professor Thomas Henry Huxley, a famous biologist/evolutionist and supporter of Charles Darwin, disputing the claim.
