Threadwinder.info - Sewn Crochet Hook Holder

I designed this crochet hook holder to meet the following design goals:
To hold a complete set of crochet hooks from sizes steel-16 through aluminum-N.
To hold other tools needed for crocheting (including a measure, scissors, a book for darning needles, a pocket for stitchmarkers, and a nail file).
To hold all items so that they do not slip out of their respective slots/pockets.
To look like it is a crochet hook holder (requires customization because I have been unable to find any crochet-themed novelty fabric).

What follows is not a pattern, but instead, a list of hints discovered through my trials and errors in making the pictured crochet hook holder.
It is hand-sewn, using Ultrasuede. That fiber's elasticity and my hand-sewing allowed for a tight fit for each hook. I laid out my hooks on the outside fabric, sandwiching them between inner and outer layers, and pinning them securely, cutting the fabric to fit. In retrospect, it would have been much better if I had delayed the cutting until after all the crochet hook slots had been sewn, because pins take up a different amount of fabric than stitching does. In my holder the finished size of the outside fabric is 10" across the top, 12" down the right side and 11" down the left side. The inner pocket is 10" across, 5 3/8" down the right side, and 4 3/4" down the left side. One side is longer because aluminum hooks are longer than steel ones. The entire holder and pocket are 10" across, but I recommend adding 2" (1" extra on each side) with the extra to be cut away when you are ready to sew in the adjuct holders and to add the edging.
Crocheted button loops and buttons are added then, and a 29" crocheted ribbon sewn to the outside right edge. My last step was to applique the crochet hook silhouettes.
For the ribbon I used size 10 thread and size 9 hook.
